BASIC FIRE AWARENESS

The basic fire awareness course is suitable for organisations where the staffand management have to be aware of the hazards in their workplace and theactions they can take to nullify them.

The aim of the course is to highlight fire hazards within the participants workplace. The actions theymust take to prevent fire and the subsequent actions to be taken in the eventof fire.

On completion of the course the participants should have a basic understanding of the nature of fire. They will be able to recognise potential fire hazards both to themselves and other members of their organisation. They will know the action to be taken in the event of fire and how to either tackle it in its early stages with first aid fire fighting equipment and/or prevent the travel of heat and smoke.

It is recommended that the Safety Officer or a member of management of the participating organisation discuss with Priory Training the hazards applicable to the building and the use to which it is put before finalising any course content or duration.

The following subjects will always be included in a basic fire awareness course:

• The chemistry of combustion
• Causes of fire
• The classification of fire
• The use of extinguishers and first aid fire ....... . fighting equipment
