FIRE AWARENESS IN RESIDENTIAL CARE

 

This certificated A day course conforms to the requirements of section 5.3 of Fire Precautions in Residential Care Homes. It also meets the standard expected by most Fire Brigades and Local Authorities.

The aims of the course are to ensure that all members of staff are aware of and understand the fire
precautions applicable to the building and the action to be taken in the event of fire.

Course objectives are to instruct all staff on their responsibilities in the event of an emergency by appropriate training and practical demonstration.

Generally the following points will be covered:

• The chemistry of combustion
• The action to be taken in the event of fire
• The action to be taken upon hearing the . . . . . .alarm
• Raising the alarm and the location of alarm . . . .call out points and alarm indicator panels.
• The correct method of calling the fire brigade
• The location and use of different types of fire . .fighting equipment
• Practical use of extinguishers
• Knowledge of escape routes
• Built in fire safety features.
• The importance of testing and maintenance
• Appreciation of the importance of fire doors ...and the need to close doors at the time of a ...fire and prevent the travel of smoke and heat
• Signs and notices
